Hut Island is a very small primitive island near the Tulum ruins. There is only one shop on the island that sells general tourist goods. We docked on the reef at Hut Island. After walking on the beach for about twenty feet, I discovered that this was the prefect place to go shell hunting. I collected some of the best conch shells, shells that I saw in the shops. They were plentiful and each offered a unique characteristic. I spent most of the day walking the island, collecting shells, and swimming them back to the boat. Snorkeling was excellent on this reef. You could see everything the water was so clear and calm. We saw many starfish and colorful fish. We even saw some barracudas. We caught our own dinner of grouper and snapper that tasted fabulous.
The next day we headed to the Mayan ruins at Tulum. Tulums best attraction is the location. You stand on a bluff looking out at the Caribbean Sea with spectacular views. Tulum is a walled city, one of the few the ancient Maja's built. Tulum was a major link to the Maja's trade and both maritime and land routes were dispensed here. When you look at these ruins you get a mystical feeling. You feel an overpowering sensation. The ruins were one of the most magical experiences in my life.
