The Westminister Abbey is a Gothic church in the heart of London. It is the church of England where all the queens and kings attend. I think it is one of the most beautiful architectural buildings of Gothic design in the world. It
was built from 1050 to 1745. Benedictine monks first came to this site
in the middle of the tenth century establishing a tradition of prayer
and worship that still continues today. Since William I, all the
English monarchs have been crowned in the abbey and several were even
buried there. Queen Elizabeth I is buried there as is Mary Queen of
Scots and Henry VII. They have monuments and tombs in alcoves where each legendary queen or king are buried. At these alcoves you can prey or light a candle for your favorite queen or king. Above the tomb you will find exquisite masterpieces adoring the walls. Over 3,000 people are buried in the Church or Cloisters and there are over 600 monuments. The abbey is immense with intricate detail in the
woodwork that is pleasant to the eyes. The stain glass windows are so
colorful and abundant with detail it takes awhile to grasp the total
picture. This building is one of the most beautiful buildings in the
world.
